According to a document obtained by the Indian Ocean Newsletter, the Somalian Investigative Journalist Dahir Abdulle Alasow, who presents programmes in Somali on YouTube, was promoted to director-general of Galmudug Counterterrorism (GCT) on 22 May by the president of Galmudug, Ahmed Duale Gelle Haaf. Until now, he had been the head of the press watchdog Associated Somali Journalists and editor in chief of Sunatimes.com and Waagacusub.com. He was for a time based in Holland from where he broadcast Waagacusub.com. The counter-terrorism body he is now in charge of will report to the president's office. With international support, he will coordinate the activities of the special army and police units within the Special Intervention Service.
