Somali-Dutch investigative journalist and philanthropist Dahir Abdulle Alasow has been recognized as Humanitarian of the Year 2026 for his outstanding humanitarian efforts through the Alasow Foundation, an international non-profit organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities.

The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged people through humanitarian action, community development, and social impact initiatives.

For more than two decades, Dahir Alasow has been known as one of Somalia’s leading investigative journalists, exposing corruption, terrorism networks, piracy activities, and human rights violations. In recent years, however, he has increasingly focused on humanitarian work, transforming his experience and international network into direct assistance for vulnerable communities.

Through the Alasow Foundation, projects have been launched in Somalia and beyond to support:

  • Orphans and vulnerable children

  • Families living in poverty

  • Blind and disabled individuals

  • Autism support programs

  • Water well construction projects

  • Emergency humanitarian assistance

The organization is legally registered in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Somalia, allowing it to expand its international humanitarian operations.

Speaking after receiving the award, Dahir Alasow expressed gratitude to supporters, volunteers, donors, and community leaders who have contributed to the foundation’s success.

"Humanitarian work is about restoring hope and dignity. This award belongs to every volunteer, donor, and supporter who believes that helping others can change lives."

The Humanitarian of the Year Award highlights the growing impact of grassroots humanitarian organizations and the important role of community-driven initiatives in addressing social and economic challenges.

Observers noted that the recognition reflects not only Dahir Alasow’s journalistic achievements but also his transition into one of the most visible Somali humanitarian figures working across multiple countries.
