Waagacusub.com - When Mustafa Agjar has been appointed as the interim president of the western Somalia region, he took some important measures that were praised by the society, and drastic measures which were very bizarre.
1-    He changed the flag of the regional administration, depicting the yellow camel, into one showing Somalia’s five point star.
2-    He officially announced that Friday is holiday, and all the civil servants can perform their prayers.
3-    He said that he allowed freedom of expression and free trade.
4-    He closed the notorious "Ogaden jail”, and freed all the inmates, political prisoners and death row inmates.
Three out of those four points were welcomed by the majority of the society but the federal government of Ethiopia got annoyed with two of them – the flag showing the white star, and the Friday holiday.
Mustafa Agjar who previously told the media that Abdi Iley has killed his brother seemed to be, in the eyes of the public, at least to hide his animosity and revenge mentality.  He even promised this to the officials who’ve been Working Abdi, but this became futile when he changed his mind in a matter of days, and retracted his promise of upholding freedom of expression.
1-    All his cabinet members and regional governors were rewarded to Al Islah, Al Itihad, whom he is a member of. Among those he appointed were two men who are members of Al Islah, who have been working for an Addis Ababa based organization headed by his brother Mohamed Agjar.
2-    He appeared in the media while he was angry, sending threats to supporters of the jailed president who was in the helm for 12 years.
3-    He sacked all those who hail from the sub clan of Abdi Iley.  He arrested his supporters, closed companies of his relatives, and demanded all those who borrowed money from banks to return it in seven days.  He ordered dismissal of the civil servants, but didn’t work.  He made the Somali language TV in the region a tool that spreads insults to his predecessors which is against the rules of diplomacy.
4-    He gave all the positions of projects and presidency to people from his sub clan, reer Isack, while he used to blame Abdi’s sub-clan for nepotism.
5-    He did not fulfil the promises he made to Abdi’s officials such as Ahmed Ilka’ase, Khadar Dhere, and Suad. The promise was that he won’t take revenge steps against Abdi Ileys clansmen.
6-    He ordered that all the lands authorised by the Abdi Iley’s administration be reclaimed.  He also made development projects null and void.
7-    He ordered the release of the death raw inmates from the prisons, but it is neither his powers, nor the power of any government official to pardon someone who committed murder.  Only the next of kin of the victim can extend such pardon.[SHARIA LAW]
Mr Agjar who is now an interim president, and not part of the central committee. He has dared to take naive steps.  He seems to be revengeful, rather than being someone who can grab the opportunity which has been perceived as a rare one.
