    Somali President Receives African Football Legends at the Presidential Palace

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, welcomed to the Presidential Palace three of Africa's legendary footballers: Samuel Eto'o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation; Emmanuel Adebayor; and Jay-Jay Okocha, during their historic visit to Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the visiting stars for their presence in Somalia, noting that their visit is a strong indication of the country’s improving security and ongoing recovery. He emphasized the Federal Government's commitment to the development of sports, particularly in engaging and empowering Somali youth.

"The Federal Government of Somalia is making strong efforts to promote sports nationwide and to highlight the talent and potential of Somali youth in athletics,” the President stated.

He further noted that the visit by such prominent international athletes reflects the growing confidence the global community has in Somalia’s progress—especially in terms of youth engagement, integration, and international sports cooperation.

The event was also attended by:

  • H.E. Mohamed Abdiqadir Ali, Minister of Youth and Sports of Somalia,

  • Mr. Ali Abdi Mohamed, President of the Somali Football Federation,

  • Mr. Augustino Maduot Parek, President of the South Sudan Football Association, and

  • Mr. Suleiman Hassan Waberi, President of the Djibouti Football Federation.
