HARGEISA — Somaliland President Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) received a hero's welcome in Hargeisa upon his return from what his administration described as a historic visit to Israel.

Thousands of supporters lined the streets to welcome the president, waving Somaliland flags and celebrating what government officials characterized as an important diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening international partnerships and expanding cooperation in areas including investment, technology, agriculture, and economic development.

The visit has generated significant attention across the Horn of Africa and beyond, with supporters describing it as a major diplomatic milestone for Somaliland's international engagement.

However, the visit has also sparked criticism among many Somalis and in parts of the Muslim world, where some political leaders and commentators opposed the outreach to Israel and questioned its potential impact on regional relations.

Political and security analysts have also expressed concern that closer relations with Israel could increase regional security risks. Some observers have warned that strategic locations such as the Port of Berbera and the Somaliland Presidential Palace could become potential targets if regional tensions were to escalate. There has been no official confirmation or public evidence of any imminent attack or specific threat against these sites.

Despite the criticism, President Cirro reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding Somaliland's international partnerships and pursuing its foreign policy objectives through diplomatic engagement.

The visit continues to generate debate across the region, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with Somaliland's evolving foreign policy and international outreach.
