Sunatimes.com - Emerging reports suggest that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been accused of using military power to regain control of the country, raising serious concerns about how the national army and state authority are being utilized.
The President has appointed top military positions to officers from his own clan, sparking particular criticism for naming his own son, Abdifitah Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to a senior military role. This move has led to widespread allegations of clan favoritism and has generated mistrust within various factions of both the military and the civilian population.

Furthermore, some reports indicate that government weapons have been handed over to a newly formed clan-based militia, which has intensified concerns about both security and political stability. It is believed that the President is planning to use military force to influence the upcoming elections, with opposition groups in Mogadishu reportedly already beginning armed mobilizations.

Adding to the situation are strong accusations of corruption within the President’s office. According to informed sources, public lands have been transferred to a businessman named Abdinassir Ali Adoon, who is alleged to have financed the President’s election campaign.

Government contracts, development projects, and tax revenues are reportedly being channeled to individuals close to the President’s family. This has severely undermined transparency and eroded public trust.

Meanwhile, the Al-Shabaab militant group has regained control over significant areas in the Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions, as government forces continue to retreat. The growing insecurity has sparked a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions facing famine and displacement.

Independent media in the country is under constant suppression—some journalists have been imprisoned, while others are pressured with bribes to prevent them from reporting on the government's abuses and corruption.

Conclusion:

If the above reports prove to be true, they paint a grim picture of Somalia’s political and security landscape. It is essential that national leaders avoid favoritism, abuse of power, and militarization of politics in order to preserve public confidence and national unity. Independent journalism and civil society must be allowed to speak freely on critical national issues to ensure genuine accountability.
