Sunatimes.com - A Special meeting of the UN Security Council on 31 March has recommended strong resolutions that will affect the roadmap of peace and development in Somalia. The Security Council meeting has been dominated by a discussion on matters regarding the extension of the Amisom stay in Somalia and the political fall-out between the Somali government and federal government member states.
Following the political discord between warring political factions and their unwillingness to solve, the UN Security Council has put a bold step towards ending the political turmoil.
The following are the UN resolutions:
The decision on sharing the national resource shall be negotiated through consensus between the Somali government and the federal states in accordance with the Somali constitution. The UN Security Council has also opposed the decision of the Somali parliament of legislating matters of national interest, which directly affects the federal states without their consent and participation.
Following the political dispute between the Somali government and the federal member states the UN security council has recommended or directs the formation of an oversight structure  such as ‘Somali National Leadership Forum’which will bring together Somali government and regional governments and all should equally make the mutual agreement on issues such National security, Election roadmap and equitable sharing of the national resources.
Clarification of leadership structure and the roles and responsibilities of the institutions in charge of security.
The UN Security Council resolution is in line with Chapter VII of the UN constitution which states: that it’s important to take measures and determine the existence of any threat to the peace and shall make recommendations, or decide the direction that shall be taken.
The UN Security Council has the feeling that Somalia is heading to a destination that can jeopardize the so far achieved peace and tranquility.
The Security Council has now given the Somali government the green light and the steps take to implement the resolution as per Chapter VII of the UN constitution.
The Somali Government led by President Mohamed Farmaajo seems to be losing the confidence of the international community. The signatories of the UN Security Council are the US and the EU member countries.
