MOGADISHU, Somalia — Residents and witnesses in Mogadishu have described scenes of devastation after heavy fighting and shelling struck several parts of the capital, causing civilian casualties and widespread damage to homes and property. Witnesses said artillery rounds and gunfire hit residential neighborhoods, forcing families to flee their homes as clashes intensified. Local residents reported that many of the victims were civilians who were caught inside their houses during the fighting.

Medical sources and community leaders reported dozens of deaths and injuries, although casualty figures remain difficult to verify independently as the security situation continues to evolve.

Residents who spoke to local media described the events as among the most serious outbreaks of violence seen in the capital in recent years. Many called for an immediate end to the fighting and urged political leaders to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than armed confrontation.

Human rights advocates have also called for independent investigations into reports of civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.

Meanwhile, efforts to ease tensions reportedly continue as political leaders, community elders, and international partners seek ways to prevent further escalation.

As fighting continues to affect parts of Mogadishu, civilians remain trapped between rival political and military forces, raising concerns about the humanitarian consequences of the crisis.
