Mogadishu, Somalia – Claims circulating among current and former Somali security officials have alleged that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has accumulated significant personal wealth during his time in office, prompting renewed political controversy over corruption, land disputes, and urban development in Mogadishu.

According to information provided to Sunatimes by individuals described as members of Somalia's intelligence community, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has allegedly become one of Africa's wealthiest political leaders.

A former Villa Somalia official identified as Abdinur claimed that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has become "the fourth-richest president in Africa." However, no independent financial records or publicly available evidence have been presented to substantiate that claim.

Another source, identified as Khalif Sheikh, who was described as an official within the financial section of Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), alleged that several large commercial and real estate projects in Mogadishu are owned or controlled by the President.

Meanwhile, opposition political leaders have accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of benefiting financially from alleged land grabbing and the displacement of residents in Mogadishu. These accusations have been made publicly by members of the opposition but have not been independently verified.

When contacted by Sunatimes, advisers to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud rejected the allegations. They described the reports claiming that the President amassed wealth through land acquisitions in Mogadishu as politically motivated propaganda being spread by opposition groups.

Regardless of the dispute surrounding the President, it is widely acknowledged by various observers and public commentators that some officials within Somalia's police and security institutions have become significantly wealthy in recent years. Critics have alleged that this wealth is linked to disputed land transactions and the forced displacement of residents in Mogadishu, although such allegations remain subject to investigation and have not been conclusively established by a court of law.

As public scrutiny continues, calls for greater transparency, independent investigations, and stronger accountability mechanisms regarding public officials' assets and land administration are expected to remain central issues in Somalia's political landscape.
