Somalia's airline companies announced a strike set for Wednesday, effectively halting all operations in response to escalating pressures from authorities that have rendered their operations increasingly untenable. In a statement released in Mogadishu, the companies lamented that their longstanding grievances with the Ministry of Transport and civil aviation authorities have been systematically ignored by the government.
Though the airlines refrained from disclosing the specifics of their complaints, sources suggest that the work stoppage is primarily driven by exorbitant fees levied by the authorities, which the companies insist have become financially insurmountable.

In southern Somalia, where road conditions are perilous and security threats abound, air travel remains the critical lifeline for many. The ongoing danger posed by militant groups along major routes, coupled with extortionate checkpoints manned by both security forces and militias, has made air transport the preferred choice for those seeking safer and more reliable travel options.
