Reports from northern Somali town of Las Anod say armed gunmen on Saturday night shot dead a regional court judge, the second attack targeting Somaliland’s judiciary in the region since mid last year.

The deceased, Ahmed Hajji Mohamoud (Dun-kalah) was gunned down by two gangs armed with pistols who attacked him at around 8:00pm (local time) while watching a football match at cafeteria, eyewitnesses and police say.

The area regional police boss Ali Ismail Farah was quoted as saying that police arrested one of the gangs who shot dead the judge and are hunting for the other gunman who is on the run.

Attacks against Somaliland judges in the region have been on the increase since last year when the area appellate judge Mohamed Ibrahim Samatar was assassinated by unknown gangs in October last year.
