SOLDA continues to document reports involving suspected fraudulent fundraising, financial exploitation and campaigns in which money is solicited from the public without sufficient transparency regarding its purpose, beneficiaries or ultimate use.
Where credible financial-harm indicators are identified, relevant digital evidence may be preserved and, where appropriate, referred to platform Trust & Safety teams, financial institutions, regulators or competent authorities for independent assessment.
SOLDA is concerned about accounts reportedly being used to threaten, intimidate or pressure individuals for money, digital gifts or other benefits.
This can include threats to publish private information, photographs, recordings or other sensitive material unless demands are met.
Protecting children and vulnerable individuals remains a priority.
SOLDA pays particular attention to online activity that may expose children or vulnerable users to harassment, exploitation, coercion, humiliation, inappropriate content or the unauthorised disclosure of personal information.
Where credible safeguarding concerns are identified, SOLDA prioritises evidence preservation and responsible referral to appropriate platform safety teams and, where necessary, competent safeguarding or law-enforcement authorities.
Publishing another person's telephone number, address, financial information, private communications or other sensitive personal information can expose individuals and families to serious offline and online risks.
SOLDA encourages users to respect privacy and urges individuals who experience serious doxxing or privacy violations to preserve relevant evidence and use appropriate reporting channels.
Repeated harassment, targeted intimidation and threats can have consequences extending far beyond social media.
SOLDA documents credible reports of serious online threats and harassment while distinguishing allegations from independently verified information.
SOLDA Safety Network remains committed to constructive cooperation with TikTok, Facebook and other online platforms to help identify emerging risks within the Somali-language digital environment.
Somali-language content can involve dialects, coded expressions, cultural references and contextual meanings that may require specialised human and contextual assessment alongside automated moderation systems.
Through responsible reporting and evidence-based referrals, SOLDA seeks to support platform Trust & Safety teams in identifying serious cases involving fraud, financial exploitation, blackmail, threats, safeguarding concerns and other forms of online harm.
These concerns relate to specific behaviours, accounts and networks — not to the Somali community as a whole. Somali communities around the world use social media responsibly every day for communication, entrepreneurship, education, journalism and public engagement.
SOLDA does not determine criminal guilt. Our role is to document credible concerns, preserve relevant evidence, distinguish allegations from verified information and make responsible referrals where appropriate.
Digital platforms should empower communities, protect vulnerable users and enable people to communicate safely.
