MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — Said Abdullahi Deni is reportedly traveling to Mogadishu as political tensions in Somalia continue to escalate amid growing international concern over the country's disputed political process and widening divisions between the Federal Government and opposition groups.

According to political sources familiar with the developments, a sensitive high-level meeting is expected to take place on May 13 inside the heavily fortified Halane Compound, where discussions are anticipated between the Federal Government of Somalia and opposition representatives.

Sources indicate that the talks are expected to involve Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, alongside international representatives closely monitoring Somalia’s political and security situation.

Diplomatic sources claim that members of the international community have recently increased pressure on Somali political leaders to engage in dialogue and avoid further escalation that could threaten national stability, security cooperation, and ongoing state-building efforts.

The anticipated meeting reportedly comes amid growing disputes surrounding constitutional amendments, federal-state relations, electoral processes, and control over regional political institutions. Concerns have also been raised regarding the possibility of political unrest and wider instability if negotiations fail to produce a breakthrough.

While no official public agenda has yet been released, analysts believe the discussions may focus on:

  • political reconciliation,
  • constitutional disputes,
  • security coordination,
  • electoral legitimacy,
  • and mechanisms for reducing tensions between the federal leadership and opposition actors.

At the time of publication, neither Villa Somalia nor Puntland authorities had issued a formal statement confirming the full details of the expected meeting.

Political observers view the upcoming Halane talks as potentially critical for Somalia’s immediate political future, particularly as international stakeholders continue urging Somali leaders to pursue consensus-based solutions through dialogue rather than confrontation.
