Dhuusamareeb — The President of Galmudug, Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoor Qoor, has issued an emergency presidential decree banning the public carrying, transportation, and use of weapons across Galmudug territories amid escalating political and security tensions in central Somalia.
The presidential order, dated May 8, 2026, directs all security agencies operating in Galmudug to immediately prevent the movement and public display of both heavy and light weapons in civilian areas. The decree cites growing security concerns and the urgent need to safeguard public safety, preserve stability, and prevent further deterioration of the situation.

The order comes during a period of heightened political uncertainty following reports of increased military movements and mounting disputes involving federal-linked security actors and the Galmudug regional administration.

According to the decree, the Galmudug leadership warned that the uncontrolled circulation of weapons could threaten public order, destabilize the region, and undermine ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in Dhuusamareeb, a city that has experienced rapid growth and modernization in recent years.

Residents and political observers say the emergency measure reflects growing fears that the rising political tensions could eventually trigger armed confrontations if not contained through dialogue and restraint.

The decree further emphasized that all security institutions in Galmudug are required to strictly enforce the order and take immediate action against any violations related to the carrying or use of weapons in civilian locations.

At the time of publication, Somalia’s federal authorities had not issued an official public response regarding the emergency decree announced by the Galmudug administration.
