SOLDA Safety Network has formally submitted a detailed dossier to the Government of Egypt, presenting evidence that Cairo has increasingly become a major transit hub used by human trafficking networks to smuggle Somali migrants toward North Africa and Europe.
According to the organization, the submission contains documented cases, testimonies, and intelligence reports indicating that Somali youth are being routed through Cairo as part of broader trafficking operations involving criminal networks operating across Somalia, Egypt, Libya, and other countries.

SOLDA Safety Network confirmed that the dossier also includes a list of Somali and foreign traffickers suspected of organizing and facilitating the illegal movement of young Somalis. These individuals are alleged to be directly involved in recruitment, document forgery, transportation, and coordination with armed smuggling groups.

In response to the growing crisis, SOLDA Safety Network announced the formation of a special committee that will work directly with Egyptian authorities to support investigations and assist in identifying trafficking networks.

"We have formally requested the Egyptian government to temporarily suspend the issuance of entry visas to Somalis while investigations are ongoing,” said the Director of SOLDA Safety Network. "Our evidence indicates that the trafficking operation is not only organized by criminal gangs, but also involves individuals connected to institutions inside Somalia.”

The organization warns that human trafficking has reached catastrophic levels. Thousands of Somalis are currently believed to be held in detention centers and makeshift prisons inside Libya, where many are subjected to torture, extortion, and forced labor. Thousands more have perished while crossing deserts or attempting dangerous sea journeys.

SOLDA Safety Network says Cairo’s growing role as a transit point has enabled traffickers to move victims more easily before transferring them to Libya or other departure points toward Europe.

Human rights advocates argue that stronger regional coordination is urgently needed to dismantle trafficking networks, protect vulnerable migrants, and prosecute those responsible.

SOLDA Safety Network called on international partners, including African governments, the European Union, and the United Nations, to support Egypt in strengthening border controls, investigating financial flows linked to trafficking, and ensuring protection mechanisms for victims.

"The lives of Somali youth are being traded as commodities,” the organization stated. "This crime must be confronted with decisive international action.”
