The Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) strongly condemns the deliberate killing of two courageous Al Jazeera journalists — Anas Al-Sharif and Mohamed Al-Qureyci — in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.
These journalists dedicated their lives to truth-telling, bringing the world raw and unfiltered coverage of the situation in Gaza and the atrocities being committed. Their work stood as a testament to the power of independent journalism and the sacrifice it demands.
ASOJ President Mr. Dahir Alasow stated:
"We urge the international community not to accept the ongoing war against freedom of expression, press freedom, and the horrific acts committed by Israel against independent journalists. I send my deepest condolences to the families of the two journalists and extend my heartfelt sympathies to journalists around the world.”
ASOJ calls on all international press freedom organizations, human rights bodies, and world leaders to hold Israel accountable for crimes against journalists and to ensure such attacks never go unpunished.
