In recent years, however, he has shifted much of his focus toward humanitarian work through the establishment of Alasow Foundation, an international charitable organization dedicated to supporting disadvantaged communities.
Alasow Foundation has been legally registered in multiple jurisdictions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Somalia, allowing the organization to expand its humanitarian activities both inside and outside Somalia.
The foundation supports:
Orphan care programs
Autism support centers
Assistance for visually impaired individuals
Emergency aid for poor families
Education initiatives
Water well construction projects
Faisa Abdinur, a 52-year-old resident of Mogadishu, praised the organization for helping restore her eyesight.
"Alasow Foundation paid for my eye surgery. They do things that neither the government nor other organizations have done for people like us,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Hasno Ali, a woman from a minority community, said she was imprisoned after being unable to pay medical expenses incurred while her son was receiving treatment at Jaban Hamar Hospital in Mogadishu.
According to Hasno, Alasow Foundation intervened and covered the outstanding medical costs, helping secure her release.
Among the foundation’s most significant achievements has been the construction and rehabilitation of hundreds of water wells in drought-affected communities.
The projects have provided clean drinking water to thousands of families facing recurring droughts and water shortages across Somalia.
The humanitarian activities of Alasow Foundation have received official recognition from Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, which awarded the organization a certificate of appreciation acknowledging its charitable contributions and community development efforts.
Supporters describe Dahir Alasow as an example of how journalism and humanitarian work can complement one another by not only exposing social problems but also helping provide practical solutions.
Today, the former investigative journalist is increasingly recognized as one of the Somali diaspora's leading humanitarian figures, dedicating his efforts to supporting orphans, vulnerable families, and underserved communities throughout Somalia.
