MOGADISHU, Somalia — Senior police officials in Mogadishu are facing serious allegations of corruption and abuse of power following large-scale evictions that have displaced an estimated 260,000 families across the city. According to multiple sources, substantial bribes were allegedly paid to key police authorities overseeing operations in Mogadishu, enabling the forced seizure of land and demolition of homes belonging to civilians. The evictions have left thousands of families homeless, with many now struggling to survive in open areas without shelter.

Witnesses report that residents were forcibly removed from land they claim to legally own, raising concerns over violations of property rights and due process. The situation has been described by observers as a humanitarian crisis, particularly as it unfolds during a period of heavy rainfall in Mogadishu, worsening already dire living conditions.

Prior to these events, communities in the affected areas were already recovering from a prolonged drought, making the sudden displacement even more devastating. Many families are now exposed to harsh weather conditions, with limited access to food, clean water, and basic services.

Allegations have also emerged that sections of the independent media were bribed to remain silent on the issue, further limiting public awareness and scrutiny of the operations.

Opposition politicians have strongly condemned the evictions, calling for accountability and transparency. Meanwhile, Solda Safety Network, a human rights advocacy organization, has urged the international community to launch an independent investigation into the alleged corruption and human rights violations.

The organization further claims that during the operations, over 1,000 people were arrested, while more than 100 individuals were reportedly killed, highlighting the severity of the crackdown.

As pressure mounts, calls are growing for urgent intervention to address the displacement crisis, protect civilians, and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
