The Somali-led watchdog organization Solda Safety Network has filed a formal request with Swiss authorities to investigate Mohamed Mohamud, a Somali national living in Lausanne who is known on TikTok as "Khalid Mula." According to the group's findings, Mohamud—who previously held ties to Somali piracy networks and reportedly holds a Greek residency permit—now lives in Switzerland in state-subsidized housing, yet allegedly earns vast sums of money through his TikTok livestreams.

Allegations of Welfare Fraud

Solda Safety Network claims Mohamud receives Swiss welfare benefits while simultaneously generating large, undeclared income online. He is said to earn more than USD 1,000 every night from TikTok livestreams and, on at least one occasion, collected over USD 100,000 (≈ 20 million TikTok coins) in a single night.

Despite this income, he continues to live in government-subsidized accommodation, with rent paid directly by Swiss authorities—raising serious concerns about welfare fraud.

Fraud Against a Vulnerable Mother

The group also accuses Mohamud of defrauding USD 4,800 from Farhiya Diiriye Dufle, a Somali mother whose young child is seriously ill. According to the report, the money was collected during a TikTok livestream under the pretense of support, but Mohamud later refused to hand it over, claiming it had been given to someone else.

Exploitation, Drugs, and Suspected Terror Financing

In addition to financial fraud, the activist group alleges Mohamud has engaged in:

  • Blackmailing young women using intimate recordings,
  • Inappropriate online conduct involving minors,
  • Drug trafficking, with khat reportedly sold through an outlet in Lausanne, and
  • Money laundering, channeling TikTok income through a PayPal account ([email protected]) suspected of funding weapons purchases for Somalia.

Call for Action

In its submission to the EVAM (Établissement Vaudois d’Accueil des Migrants) and the Canton of Vaud Administration, Solda Safety Network urges Swiss authorities to:

  • Launch a comprehensive investigation into Mohamud’s activities,
  • Verify his residency and welfare claims, and
  • Audit his financial flows to identify possible links to illicit networks.

"This case represents a serious risk to public safety, financial integrity, and the credibility of Switzerland’s social protection systems,”

said  President of Solda Safety Network.
