Sunatimes.com - Somalis in very region are thankful for the International Community in their relentless effort of bringing about this important meeting between President Farmaajo and the Federal State leaders. The meeting is an outcome of their shuttled diplomacy and hardworking after long standing disagreements between the stakeholders and government. There no much time left from the tenure of the current government. The president's statement in announcing Samareeb (Dusamareb) meeting is viewed to be problematic by many. It is undermining the importance of the political meeting by suggesting that the president will meet with parliament after Samareeb meeting. For what?
The tenure of parliament ran out at the end of last month, despite the illegal( only lower house was involved) and controversial extension exercise undertaken. Even if they were to meet, many see, their meeting as unconstitutional and meaningless, and there is no need to exacerbate a very volatile situation...  Any attempt to extend the term of the president will not be accepted by the opposition groups and public at large.  There is no other institution but executive and the president resumes that role in this critical time.  Why complicate things, after all the parliamentarians are from those regions and if a political settlement is reached their support is not required, because their credibility had been compromised long ago and could not be used to rubber stamp a self interest project against the public interests...
The statement is also seen that the president is trying to set the agenda before the meeting. In order wards, he is planning ahead single-handedly for the outcome of expected meeting. Many people including the opposition groups believe that the meeting is meant to address the disputed issue of electoral management which is viewed by all to be all inclusive and fair. It was categorically  rejected the government plan on elections and the way it wanted to manage it. That is why this meeting is crucial and come about this late.
They say that the president is in no position to involve the  parliament in the implementation of the political decision with other stakeholders, but he is only there to negotiate  with others on how to deal with this critical crises to save the country. It is thought to be a last chance for all involved including the President.
Critics believe that this meeting is a good opportunity for all and it ought to be viewed as such.  It is important to note that they say that some compromises and a consensus are important at this historical junction. Given the International Community  has played an important role in helping this meeting to take place and they are following closely the behaviour of the spoilers. Critics say they ought to know that there is no time to mess about as Somali people are watching closely too in every political manoeuvre. It is only wise to have compromises rather than preconditions for the upcoming meeting.
Analyst have observed in the media that the country is changing and many people want to see tangible action to be taken on Somali political corruptions. Many people want the role of the civil society groups to be strengthened and each community is allowed to select, on their own without any interference whatsoever,  from their respective constituencies, people of good standing in the eyes of their communities.
It is relevant to mention here that  the expectation of good outcome is dim in the eyes of the public, but many people are optimistic and expect, if the impasse is resolved peacefully in Samareeb meeting, and then the country might get a chance to have a free and fair election which is also free of corruption and that will make every body satisfied with the results.  The End.
