HARADHEERE (Sunatimes) — Somalia’s Hizbul Islam fighters have seized Harardheere pirate haven town, after residents invited them in an effort to thwart Alshabaab arrival after they captured a nearby town, residents said Sunday.
"We have overrun Haradheere now, we have entered peacefully” Mohamed Osman, Hizbul Islam spokesman told Sunatimes.
“Residents invited us to reach there” he added.
Local residents told Sunatimes that Hizbul Islam, a rival Alshabaab group has seized the town without resistance.
Dozens of pirates have fled the town, fearing arrests and ban their free life.
“We left the town and will dock our ships in Hobyo” Mohamed, a pirate told Sunatimes.
Harardhere is a town in the Mudug region,central Somalia. It has become notorious in recent times as a base for piracy in Somalia. A pirate cooperative exchange opened here in 2009 to finance pirate activities
