Solda Safety Network, an EU-based digital safety and investigative organization headquartered in the Netherlands, has announced that it documented and handled 556 cases over the past year involving online blackmail, social media abuse, digital exploitation, human trafficking concerns, and other online safety threats affecting vulnerable communities.

According to the organization, a significant number of cases involved young women targeted by online blackmail schemes, victims of social media harassment, reputational attacks, and Somali youth exposed to dangerous irregular migration networks commonly referred to as "Tahriib.”

Operating from the European Union, Solda Safety Network says it has expanded cooperation and information-sharing efforts with stakeholders and relevant authorities in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Egypt while monitoring migration-related concerns and harmful online activities affecting vulnerable migrants.

The organization stated that its investigations, reporting efforts, and public awareness campaigns have contributed to increased awareness of the dangers associated with irregular migration routes, online exploitation, and digital abuse.

Solda Safety Network also conducted awareness initiatives focusing on:

• Human trafficking and migrant exploitation

• Online blackmail and cyber harassment

• Extremist propaganda and radicalization risks

• Social media abuse and reputational attacks

• Digital safety and community protection

• Responsible use of social media platforms

The organization noted that Somali authorities have launched investigations into allegations involving certain immigration and law enforcement officials suspected of facilitating migration-related activities for financial gain. Authorities have not publicly released final conclusions regarding those investigations.

"Digital threats, online exploitation, and human trafficking increasingly operate across borders. Protecting vulnerable communities requires cooperation between civil society organizations, governments, technology companies, and international partners,” Solda Safety Network said in a statement.

Based in the European Union, the organization focuses on digital safety, online investigations, counter-extremism awareness, victim support, community protection, and public education initiatives aimed at creating safer online environments.

Over the past year, Solda Safety Network says its work has helped support victims, raise awareness, document harmful activities, and strengthen community resilience against online threats and exploitation.
