The Alasow Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organization headquartered in the Netherlands, has officially launched a landmark project to drill 100 water wells across Somalia. The initiative, funded entirely through community donations and diaspora contributions, aims to combat severe water scarcity in rural and pastoral regions affected by drought.
The first water well under this initiative has already been completed, serving as a beacon of hope for hundreds of families and livestock in rural areas of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and South West States. These regions have been among the hardest hit by prolonged droughts and limited access to clean drinking water.

According to the Foundation, the project’s primary focus is on remote villages and nomadic communities, where women and children often walk long distances in search of water. Each well is designed to include a solar-powered pumping system, elevated water tank, and animal trough, ensuring sustainability and accessibility for both people and livestock.

"Water is life, and through this project, we are giving hope to communities that have suffered from water shortages for too long,” said Dahir Abdulle Alasow, Founder and President of the Alasow Foundation. "Our goal is to ensure that every Somali family, no matter how remote their village, has access to safe and clean water.”

With its main office in the Netherlands, the Alasow Foundation operates internationally through branches in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Somalia, coordinating efforts with local engineers, volunteers, and community leaders.

The organization continues to call upon donors, well-wishers, and global partners to support the next phases of the 100 Wells Initiative, emphasizing that every contribution—no matter the size—directly helps bring water and life to Somalia’s drought-affected communities.
