Mogadishu (Sunatimes) A ceremony to hand over the position of Somali Police commissioner was on Wednesday held in Gen. Kahiye training college in Mogadishu.
Gen. Osman Omar Wehliye has taken over the police commissioner office from his predecessor, Gen. Mohamed Ali Loyan. Gen. Wehliye was the deputy commissioner before he was appointed to the new position.
Gen. Loyan who spoke during the ceremony said he was happy with his performance during the time he served in that position. Loyan wished Gen. Wehliye well and success. Gen. Loyan was the former Somali ambasodr in Tanzania before he was appointed to the police service.
Deputy Minister for home affairs and national security, Ibrahim Isak Yabarow who was also present during the ceremony praised the former commissioner Gen. Loyan for his role in improving security in the government controlled areas of the city.
Yabarow also challenged the new commissioner to do more and improve security in some parts of Mogadishu that are still unstable.
