ETHIOPIA POLITICS  By Gabriel Bohore

ADIS ABABA (Sunatimes)- Seeing the rampant threats being posed by Somalia’s extremist group of Alshabaab, The Ethiopia government has acknowledged it has received steadfast intelligence that Somali millitants might be planning to carry out attacks in some of the government offices in Addis Ababa as Civilians have been barred from some roads in the Ethiopian capital.

This comes as the election campaigns go fast in the country that won tightened security and public confidence.

Ethiopia's interior ministry has said they have received information indicating that some members of the Al-Shabab Movement have arrived in Addis Ababa to carry out attacks in the city particularly targeting government forces.

According to Ethiopian media, additional security forces have been deployed at government ministries and embassies of western nations in Addis Ababa with concerns that these areas might be targeted with vehicles loaded with explosives on the rise.

The Ethiopian government has last week said they have seized explosives and arrested a number of individuals who were planning to carry out attacks. The explosives were intercepted at a busy road in the capital.

Two weeks before the national election in Ethiopia, assailants threw a hand grenade into a political meeting hall in Oromo region, southern Ethiopia, killing three people and wounded 15 others.

Also, on Monday Gunmen have shot dead an Ethiopian opposition party activist that fuelled suspicion the fairness of the election.

More than 30 million Ethiopians have registered to vote as they will go to polling stations on May 23 seeing that this is the fourth election since Mengistu Heile Mariam’s regime was toppled on 1991.
