KISMAYO (Sunatimes)- The hardline Somali militant group of Alshabaab have destroyed six tombs of popular Somali Sheikhs, to stop what they call ‘’grave adoration’’ by moderate Islamists, residents said.

 

The operation, carried out Sunday in the Dobley town, on Kenya border, was part of a large scale operation to increase recent constraint and startle by the Al-qaeda inspired terrorist group to instil Somalis’ fears.

 

Sheikh Mohamed Haji, a senior Alshabaab official said that the particular sepulchres were among many that the residents in the region visit as a holy site.

 

"The Mujahidiin troops destroyed six tombs, situated on the territory of Dobley," he told reporters.

 

The militants on the U.S terror list carryout shocking acts, that shocked many Somalis, who are traditionally moderate Muslims, as they execute, whip, and amputate out of courts without evidence.

 

In addition, the rebels have killed two young men over reproachful the destruction of the graves.

 

“They have killed two youths after they asked them to retract grave destruction” Fadumo Abdi, eyewitness told Sunatimes.

 

“They are really foolish and hard-nosed” she added.

 

In the last month, The Shebab, who control much of the lawless Horn of Africa country, have set up a unit to destroy all tombs respected by Sufi Muslims.

 

Many of the majority Somali population say many Somali women, mostly IDPs are rape victims of the insurgents.

 

The horn of Africa nation has been without central government since1991 after clan militias and warlords overthrown the dictator regime of Siad Barre that lastly leashed out to constant violence for more than 20 years
