
MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — May 13, 2026 — The Independent National Human Rights Commission of Somalia (INHRCS) has expressed concern regarding the continued detention and prison conditions of Sacdiya Macallin Cali, who has reportedly remained in Mogadishu Central Prison for more than a month without formal charges being filed against her.
According to the Commission, the visit was conducted on April 29, 2026, as part of its constitutional mandate to monitor, protect, and promote human rights in Somalia. During the visit, Commission representatives met with prison authorities, officials from the Somali Custodial Corps, Sacdiya herself, and her legal representative.
The Commission referenced a statement issued by the Office of the Attorney General on May 6, 2026, indicating that Sacdiya is being investigated over allegations related to defamation and incitement.
