Sunatimes.com –An Israeli soldier who took his own life last week left behind a disturbing suicide note in which he described severe psychological trauma linked to the events of October 7, 2023, according to a report by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
The soldier, identified as Thomas Adzegaouskas, wrote that the attack by Hamas "destroyed his life" and transformed him into a person unable to live with the memories and actions that followed.
"October 7 was the day that destroyed my life and erased the person I used to be,” he wrote. "I am exhausted. I became someone damaged. I did things that are unforgivable, and I cannot continue living with those memories.”
According to the note, the soldier claimed he had suffered deep psychological wounds, including feelings of guilt and what he described as a "demon” that had been "chasing him” ever since the attack.
He went on to ask to be forgotten as a military officer, stating that the person he was before October 7 had already "died” mentally.
"That Thomas died on October 7. What remains is only a soul searching for peace,” he added.
Mental health issues within the Israeli armed forces have increasingly been reported, especially following the escalation of military operations in Gaza. The Israeli Defence Forces rarely disclose internal suicide cases, and there has been no official comment from the Israeli government regarding this incident.
The note highlights the psychological toll of the Gaza conflict, in which Palestinians have endured massive civilian casualties and devastation, while Israeli soldiers have also reported trauma linked to combat and the aftermath of the October 7 assault.
Sunatimes.com will continue to monitor developments from Israeli media and official statements on the matter.
