The Federal government of Somalia has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) withAbu Dhabi Ports Group that will see the two sides jointly invest in developing the country's fishing industry and port infrastructure.
The MoU elaborates a comprehensive plan for cooperation in the development of fishing ports, establishment of marine monitoring stations, enhancement of fishing industry infrastructure, and creation of training schools for fishing skills and techniques.

Speaking after the signing of the deal, Kapten Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, General Manager and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration saying his country will help strengthen Somalia’s capacity in the maritime and fisheries sector.

"We want to explore opportunities to support Somalia’s economic development by establishing investment and cooperation plans in ports, maritime services, and the country’s fishing sector. Abu Dhabi Ports Group will work with the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Somalia to strengthen the capacity of the country’s maritime and fisheries sector,” he said.

Somalia’s Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Mr. Ahmed Hassan Adam, highlighted the transformative potential of this partnership saying it will lay down a path that will lead to long-term sustainable growth and the strengthening of port infrastructure in Somalia.

"This partnership will not only enhance our capacity but will also contribute to economic development and provide new opportunities for our coastal communities that depend on fish production,” he said.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy aims to leverage the extensive experience of Abu Dhabi Ports Group in port management and logistics services to benefit Somalia’s fishing economy.
