Sunatimes.com - President Salva Kiir of South Sudan has dissolved the parliament as part of the 2018 peace agreement. New MPs have also been appointed, including legislators from the former rebel group, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO), which was led by Riek Machar, the country's first Vice-President. This development comes as the UN Security Council is set to vote on keeping or lifting the arms embargo in South Sudan.
The Republic of Congo’s long-serving President Denis Sassou Nguesso has appointed a new government that includes his son, Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, who will lead the newly created Ministry of International Cooperation and Public-Private Partnerships. The East African reports, "The NGO Global Witness said US federal prosecutors were probing the 46-year-old Denis over alleged embezzlement of several million dollars from the publicly-owned National Society of Petroleum of Congo.”
