Sunatimes.com - UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace met with Somalia's President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo following a visit to the capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, just two weeks before the Somali incumbent leader's term expires.
Somali President briefed the UK Defense Secretary and his delegation about achievements made so far on a number of forefronts include strengthening the capability of the army, enhancing security and stepping up reconciliation efforts.

UK has been training and equipping Southwest regional troops over the past years to be able to fight the militant group Al-Shabaab, which controls much of the region’s land mass.

Somali Minister of Defense, Hassan Hussein Haji, who attended the meeting, told media that President Farmajo and UK Defense Secretary discussed boosting the war against Al-Shabaab.

The meeting has come weeks after US pulled out an estimated 700 troops from Somalia and it is not immediately clear whether the UK is planning to expand its operations in the country.
