Kismayo-Hundreds of clan elders from different parts of Jubaland State of Somalia on Saturday,discussed the process of Parliamentary selection.
The Clan elders meeting in Kismayo , the first of its kind in Jubaland since the presidential election 15 May 2013, in which an overwhelming majority of 500 delegates elected Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) as the president of Jubaland.
A spokesperson for Jubaland Clan Elders , Ugas Omar Hiray, opened the meeting by thanking clan elders, educators, intellectuals, Jubaland Women Community and different parts of the society for their attendance and being on time.
” We are ready to facilitate our people of Jubaland to select their representatives very soon,” said Clan elders Spokesperson, Ugas Omar Hiray.
Hiray said Jubaland members of Parliament will be based on picking up the representatives from their own villages,districts and provinces amid the new MPs of Jubaland will come from lower Jubba, Middle Jubba and Gedo regions of which Jubaland State of Somalia consists.
The Spokesperson urged Jubaland leadership that are outside of the country to return to Jubaland.
“We will select talented MPs that will be able to follow every misconduct and will hold accountable for any wrongdoing linked to government institutions for their responsibilities,” He Said.
Jubaland authority have recent stepped up rebuilding programs mainly government and public sectors as well as schools, hospitals and the roads .
Jubaland authority is battling with al Qaeda-aligned militant with the help of AMISOM troops .
On Saturday, remotely-detonated roadside Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed two Jubaland Security Forces and slightly wounded two others.
Over the last several months, officials from the United Nations and European Union, United Arab Emirates and members from Seven countries in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have been pouring to Kismayo to pledge support for the slowly-rebuilding Jubaland State of Somalia.
