The Ethiopian forces have invaded Somalia in 2006 when the Islamic Courts Union Addis Ababa (Sunatimes) The Ethiopian government said that it may send troops to Somalia to help the African Union Peacekeeping Force in Mogadishu.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia said in a press statement held yesterday in Addis Ababa that his government was ready to assist the TFG and AMISOM forces in Somalia.

Zenawi said that if the Somali militants pose as a risk to the peacekeepers it Somalia, his forces have no choice but to help them and defeat the rebel groups.

The Ethiopian forces have invaded Somalia in 2006 when the Islamic Courts Union took control of most of the Southern parts of Somalia after defeating warlords who controlled those areas. Ethiopia withdrew its troops from Somalia in early 2009.
