Garissa: Sunatimes: A workshop on HIV-AIDS awareness was held in the Garissa district, the headquarters of the North Eastern Province of Kenya. The workshop was organized by a North Eastern peace and development organization.

Most of those present at the workshop, which was held at the Garissa Municipal County’s social hall, were youths of the Garissa district. The youth were sensitized regarding the prevention and spread of HIV-AIDS.

Mr. Mohamed Sharif, head of the Peace and Development Organization, told the participants of the meeting that different parts of the community in the North Eastern Province are in danger of contacting the disease.

Mr. Mohamed explained that the most vulnerable among the community are: truck drivers, Miraa sellers, police and military officers in the camps, and women who sell tea along the main roads of urban centers.

Mr. Mohamed expressed regret that the HIV-AIDS infection index had risen in the province in the last few years but added that the rate was the lowest in terms of HIV-AIDS patients in Kenya.
