Abudwak, Sunatimes: Hundreds of nomads have fled their grazing land after fire ravaged over 12 km of land between the Herale and Abudwak districts.

The Galgadud region had been experiencing a long drought before the seasonal rains earlier this year relieved the suffering local pastoralists. But their relief has been cut short before they could enjoy it further as fire burnt everything their hopes relied on.

The fire caught grazing land, full of pastures, between the Herale and Abudwak districts and destroyed the only natural resource the pastoralists can rely on.

Sheikh Farah maalim, who is among the clerics of the AHlu-Suna wal-jama’a group in Abudwak, told radio Bar-kulan that his administration, with help from local volunteers, put out the fire.

He also reported that apart from the burnt grazing land there had been no deaths and injuries to people and livestock. However, the fire forced many to abandon their livestock as their nomadic shelters had also been burnt down.
