Kamsuma (Sunatimes) Dozens of vehicles and passengers were stranded after the main bridge that connects different districts in the Juba regions collapsed.
The event occurred on Wednesday morning. Previously, vehicles crossed the bridge under difficult circumstances. Traffic always had to stop coming from one direction as the bridge was very narrow. Most of the vehicles that were stranded today were coming from Mogadishu and headed to Kismayo, the capital of the Lower Juba region. Salad Abdullahi, one of the drivers whose vehicle was stranded, told radio Bar-kulan that they have no hope of crossing the bridge soon. Salad said they will now have to use the Afmadow road, which is a longer drive. Residents of Kamsumo, who live on both sides of river Juba, were today using small boats to cross the river. The Kamsuma Bridge is a strategic cross point for many districts in the Juba region and it was partly damaged by fighting in 1998. Bar-kulan. |
