Beledweyne (Sunatimes) Farmers in the Hiraan region are worried that the Shabelle River may again flood and harm their crops.
The river caused severe flooding earlier this year and now the river has more water coming from the Ethiopian highlands, which is the river’s source.
The farmers are preparing for harvest and fear that their crops could perish before being harvested.
However, some of the farmers are hoping that river will not cause havoc again as they will put in place measure that will help prevent the floods.
Early this year many of the farmers lost their crops due to high rainfall in the Ethiopian highlands, which is the source of the two main rivers in Somalia, the above mentioned Shabelle and the Juba River.
