Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has strongly condemned the Sunday blast on minibus in Nairobi’s Eastleigh, where eight people have been killed and dozen others injured.

In a statement from his office, the president extended his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and relatives of those killed in the blast.

The president highlighted the sacrifices that Kenyan forces paid to restore peace and stability inside Somalia and noted such terrorist attack will not weaken the spirit of the Kenyan People and the relations between the Somali and Kenyan government.

President Mohamud also underlined that the people and the government of Somalia are showing strong solidarity with their Kenyan brothers and sisters at this moment of national grief, adding that “Certainly, resorting to such brutal terrorist action will in no way hold back the people of Kenya”.

Following the Sunday blast angry Kenyan youths attacked ethic Somalis in Eastleigh in attempt to loot Somali-owned properties but police managed to contain the situation.
