Ali Dahir Eid, the current deputy president of Galmudug state in central Somalia, is expected to be the next premier of Somalia. Credible sources within the presidential palace suggest Mr Eid, a long-serving civil society and a close ally of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, is likely to be the next prime minister.

He is believed to be having the blessing of many influential political leaders in Somalia’s political arena, including the national assembly speaker, Mr Adan Madobe. He was among those who campaigned for President Hassan during the election.

Mr Ali was elected as Galmudug state deputy president in February 2020. He is widely remembered for his political and social reconciliation in central Somalia – an area mostly known for clan clashes.

Over the years, he has also enjoyed a close working relationship with his president, Mr Ahmed Abdi Kariye (QorQoor) and thus led to a stable Galmudug, both politically and socially.

Sources say among the reasons for his considerations includes his political stability approach and his close working relationship with the regional states, especially Jubaland and Puntland.
