During a meeting with defense ministers, EU Foreign Relations Chief Josep Borrell said that trainers and soldiers, half of whom hail from Portugal, are to be deployed before the end of the year.
The corruption trial of South Africa’s former president Jacob Zuma has been adjourned. Zuma’s newly appointed defense team has brought up concerns over the lead prosecutor, and is seeking his recusal from the case. Zuma’s lawyers also announced the former president would plead not guilty at the May 26 trial.
The IMF is ready to restart negotiations about restructuring Zambia’s external debt as soon as the country starts implementing mutually agreed on economic policies. However, bondholders were hoping for an agreement before the country's general elections, which are scheduled for August.
