Sunatimes.com - Somalia's president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo asked his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi to mediate a bitter standoff on the country's electoral process during a meeting held in Kinshasa, DR Congo's presidency said in a statement on Monday. In a two-hour meeting, the two presidents discussed the current political and security situation in Somalia, hours after Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo arrived in Kinshasa. "The president of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed met with the Head of State, Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, about the political and security situation in Somalia," Congolese presidency said.
It comes as tensions continue to build up in Somalia’s capital over a vote by the parliament last week to extend president’s term.

President Farmajo departed from Adan Adde airport as massive anti-government protests continued in the capital on Sunday evening, with tense military buildup reported in a number of neighborhoods.

"In a two-hour face-to-face [meeting], the President of Somalia requested the involvement of President Tshisekedi, in his capacity as President of the AU, to facilitate and supervise negotiations with all the stakeholders involved in this Somali crisis,” statement adds.

"Advocating African solutions to African problems, the Head of State welcomed the approach of President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed to open up to the AU and to reach out to all Somali sides for a just and lasting peace.”
