Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) condemned on Thursday the arrest of the director of Goobjoog FM Mogadishu and called the move a new method to suppress the Somali independent media. "Mohamed Ibrahim Ma'alimu is behind the arrest of the director and a journalist for Shabelle media so that he will manage their release and gain fame," ASOJ chairman Dahir  Alasow said. "Ma'alimu is a new sword being used against Somali independent Journalists by the Islamist ruling party of Damul Jadeed."

"Ma'alimu was quiet and humble reporter before a bomb Explosion hit the Lido Beach in which he suffered an injury and possibly lost his mind,"  said Mr Alasow, adding that he is willing to arrest more other journalists including Abukar Sky, Shiikhalow, Hussein Baari, Yasmin Mayow, Muse Jisow and Mohamed Mohamud Jimale.

Mo'alimu worked as a reporter for BBC Somali Service and eventually entered an agreement with the ruling party of Damul Jadeed to be named as Secretary-General of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ).

"ASOJ regards the so-called meeting commenced in the City Palace Hotel in Mogadishu , a play  ended in failure."
