Press Release
26th August 2010

SOMALI HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDENDERS NETWORK (SOHRIDEN) is strongly condemning the merciless attacks that resulted more than 33 deaths and casualties including Four Parliamentarians on 24th August at  Muna hotel  in Mogadishu.

The current fighting in Mogadishu and the ongoing atrocities reveals only the disdaining of the warring groups  to the lives of the civilians and the least consideration they don’t give to the international humanitarian law. The indiscriminate shelling of densely populated areas like markets and residential areas are war crimes and those who committed will be prosecuted and will face justice  on one day.

We also condemn the brutal actions of the TFG forces of tying dead corps of one of the  Alshabab  assailants to a pickup truck and dragging him  through the dusty streets of the capital. These actions are unacceptable in overall human norms, customary and international law  as well as international instruments of human rights .

"On behalf of all Somali Human Rights Defenders Network (SOHRIDEN), I would like to express our sympathies to the friends and families of the victims," said Ahmed kiimiko, Chairperson of SOHRIDEN and Focal Point of East and horn of Africa Human Rights defenders Network for Somalia. " Somali Human Rights Defenders are  deeply concerned by the worsening security situation in our country. Our ability is limited and we raise our voices to reach all sides the TFG , AMISOM and those extremists  Alshabab who are killing the innocents civilians indiscriminately with their mortars  and suicide bombers  to  stop  this uncaring killings with out condition” Concluded  Ahmed kiimiko
