The 53rd independence anniversary of the northern regions of Somalia from Britain colony celebrations is underway in many parts of Somalia, as highly well-organized ceremony was held at the Somali presidential palace in Mogadishu attended by top government officials.

26thJune was also marked in many parts of Somalia including central towns of Dhusa-mareb and Beled-weyne, among others.

1st July is when southern regions took independence and at the same time southern and northern regions of Somalia united having the first elected government in 1960 as a similar occasion is expected to be marked on Monday.

Somaliland peacefully ended 73 years of British rule on June 26th, 1960. On July 1st, it united with the rest of Somalia, which had been under Italian rule, to form the Somali Republic.
