The weekly news paper which is published in Nairobi has reported that the military chiefs are meeting in Addis Ababa to discuss on the pledge made by their countries to urgently deploy 2000 peacekeepers in Somalia.
The military chiefs’ meeting which has started today 19th July will end on 21st of this month. The AMISOM forces are facing the challenge of giving the peace keepers the power to attack and respond to the attacks of the militias fighting them in Somalia because they are on a peace keeping mission.
The meeting comes after Somalia’s Al-shabab insurgent group claimed the responsibility of last week’s twin attacks in Kampala that left 75 football fans dead.
Members of the IGAD countries have pledged to raise the number of the peacekeeping forces to 8100 by August in the last meeting of the IGAD head of state that was also held in Addis Ababa.
