The commander of TFG forces in the Gedo region, Colonel Jamal Hasan Farey has confirmed to Bar-kulan that government forces now control Luq district.

Mogadishu (Sunatimes) Forces of the Somali Transitional Federal Government have taken over the district of Luq in the Gedo region.

The TFG forces took over the town which is close to Belet Hawo after Al-shabab militants left the area. Al-shabab fighters left Luq town when they realized the government forces were approaching. Residents say.

The commander of TFG forces in the Gedo region, Colonel Jamal Hasan Farey has confirmed to Bar-kulan that government forces now control Luq district.

Col. Farey said that Al-shabab insurgents left Luq district last night. Government forces arrived Luq district on Monday at 0600, local time. Hundreds of residents who gathered at an open field called ‘Akaro’ were addressed by government officials who arrived at that place.

Tension is also high in Bardere and Garbaharey districts of the Gedo region after it emerged that government forces were approaching those areas, ready to battle with Shabab insurgents who control Bardere and Garbaharey.
