Galkacyo (Sunatimes) A delegation of peace brokers appointed by the Prime Minister of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government Mohamed Abdullahi has arrived at Galkayo, the capital of Mudug region early on Thursday.
The delegation is lead by deputy Prime Minister and minister for planning and international cooperation Abdiweli Mohamed Ali. Among the peace negotiators in the delegation are ministers, assistant ministers and members of parliament.
Members of the delegation held a press conference today in Galkayo and explained their mission which is to stop the ongoing violence in the Mudug region.
The deputy Prime Minister who is also the head of the delegation said that they will meet with Puntland and Galmudug administrations that control Galkayo and local elders to prepare a road map to achieve peace in the area.
Inter-clan fighting among local communities in the region started a few months ago. Close to one hundred people have been killed in the violence and others injured.
