MOGADISHU (Sunatimes) The strongholds of Al-Shabaab in southern parts of Mogadishu in Somalia have been bombed overnight by the African Union troops killing five civilians and eight more wounded, witnesses told Suntimes on Thursday.

The shelling hit partly of the districts of Wardhigley, Howlwadag, Hodan, Karan and Yaqshid where the insurgent rebel groups have heavy presence to face against the government backed by the African Union peacekeepers.

“Three from one family died last night when a missile hit their house in Karan.” Muhyidin Ali, a local resident told Sunatimes.

According to the local medical officials, some of the injured people are serious as the hospitals were already filled patients.

Constant deadly shelling and fighting became part of the daily life in Mogadishu where most of the civilians vacated their residences.

The presence of African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu, Somalia is to protect the beleaguered transitional government from the Al-Qaeda linked Islamist groups of Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam.
