The same Bloomington mosque targeted by a homemade bomb in August, was damaged again Friday, Oct. 20 by vandals. And before the vandalism, the center was grieving the loss of one of its community members.

"We lost one of our dearest community member Ahmed Eyow and activist to the deadly terror attack in Mogadishu, Somalia," an Oct. 15 post on the center's Facebook page said.

Eyow, a father to three, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help his family, died during a bombing that hit the center of Mogadishu Oct. 14, killing hundreds. 

"Mr. Eyow was a beloved member of our community," the GoFundMe page said. "We saw him multiple times a day attending our five daily prayer services as well as when he brought his children to our school and attended lectures himself." 

Eyow was born in Somalia in 1967, where he completed high school. When the country's government collapsed in 1991, he became a refugee and eventually made his way to the United States in 1998, settling in Minnesota. In 2001, he married his wife, Runn, and together they started a family. He completed his bachelor's degree in 2016 and was working as a welder, but longed to return to his homeland of Somalia, according to the GoFundMe page.
