KISUMU, Kenya, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Anti-terrorism police are on Saturday interrogating a suspect who was arrested in the western Kenyan town of Kisii on Thursday with explosive devices.

The police said the suspect was arrested with bomb making materials including detonators at a bus station and taken to lakeside city of Kisumu for questioning.

Police investigators said on Saturday that the police from Kisii central who were patrolling within a local park were tipped by members of the public that there was a person at premium shuttle carrying suspicious goods.

Officers rushed to the scene and arrested Phillip Kiptanui Damien. On searching his two bags, they recovered materials including electronic detonators and solar cord, said the police investigators who declined to disclose his name.

Initial probe revealed that the materials are used to blast quarry stones and the suspect acquired them from Tanzania.

The police officer said the suspect will be arraigned in court next week once investigations have been completed and may face charges of being in possession of the explosive materials without licence.

Kenya continues to suffer several attacks as terrorists change tuck to beat heightened security and carry on with their heinous acts undetected.

In the recent past, there have been numerous attacks involving shootings, grenades, or other explosive devices in northeast Kenya and coastal regions.
